The Wild [2006] [G] -
2.3.1
In this computer-animated comedy-adventure,
featuring an assortment of animals from the New
York Zoo. Sutherland's Samson is the zoo's big
sports star and also the overly boastful dad of
teenage cub Ryan, who has been beguiled by Dad's
tales of the old battles and wants to see for
himself. A lion cub becomes desperate to experience
the wild, after listening to its father talk about
incredible adventures. The little lion figures out
a way to escape, but does not expect the
difficulties it will encounter. Its father, along
with a giraffe, an anaconda, a koala, and a
squirrel, try to follow and discover what a jungle
the city can be. They embark on a dangerous mission
to rescue the cub. The film has a vocal ensemble -
Kiefer Sutherland (as the respected lion leader,
Samson), Greg Cipes (as Samson's son, Ryan), Jim
Belushi (as Benny, the street savvy squirrel and
Samson's best friend), Janeane Garofalo (as a
quick-witted giraffe), Richard Kind (as a
dim-witted anaconda), William Shatner (as a wicked
wildebeest), and Eddie Izzard (as Nigel, an acerbic
koala). The relationship between father and son has
aspects that every father could relate to, and
learn from. [1:34]
