Katies first Trophy. (4/25/05)
Katie Crouchers transition to Ford
Fiestas is starting to reap benefits. Katie
who has been enjoying a competitive run in the Ford
Fiesta Challenge, was able to put her extra
experience in the car to good use when she made her
first foray into the Production S1 race for
Britcars, at Brands Hatch netting her first podium
finish with a third place in Class D. After
competing in the Endurance race on the Saturday she
stayed at Brands Hatch for the Ford Fiesta
Challenge round on the Sunday. After three days of
racing round Brands Hatch she confessed to being
knackered but was highly delighted with
her first prize in four years of racing. Having won
her first award we suspect she will soon fit into
the habit of picking up pots quite regularly
throughout the season.
Katie Croucher, a new BWRDC recruit and the 25
year-old daughter of Goodwood Motor Circuit's Ted
Croucher, is competing in this years BRSCC Fiesta
Championship. "It's going to be a big challenge,
but I'm looking forward to it a lot. I'm not
competely sure how things will go, but the car I'm
in is already a proven winner." Katie was speaking
after landing some sponsorship from a city centre
gym. Chariots, based at the Westgate Centre agreed
to give the racing driver a contribution to pay for
a special fuel pump. "I train at the gym to build
up my neck muscles and I asked if they could help
me out - they were great with it." Katie is still
looking for other sponsorship.

Why did you start? My Father ran Goodwood Motor
Circuit for 29yrs so I have grown up around
circuits/racing/cars. Wanted to be a race
instructor, knew I had to race before so went for
my licence in 2000.

Best Race / drive and why? 2cv 24 hour races.
You cant beat the atmosphere, team work and
stupidity of the whole event.
Worst Race / drive and why? 2cv race at Lydden
2003. 40 min endurance race that I was doing on my
own but car broke down after 10mins so had to sit
on side of track for 30mins!!
Favourite Circuit / Venue I should say Goodwood
really because of my connection with it, but I have
never raced there, so I will say Pembrey because I
enjoy racing round there and the local area is
lovely.

Funny Stories My first ever race was the 2cv
24hr race at Mondello. I spun in the wet at the
hairpin. When I went to select a gear and pull away
the gear stick came off in my hand!!
