First thing up, please accept my apologies for the wait on this website being updated since we moved house we have changed connection and are now down to a 28.8 bit connection! Dax line and no hope of Broadband, BT say "It's Not Viable to update Your exchange!" so if anyone out there wants to get involved I need a website whiz, there’s no money for this position, we're just a small team, but I’m sure we can find some perks. Any would-be applicants please email me at meshugge@mutleyracing.com It would be nice if the applicant had some knowledge of cars.

Second, yes we did buy another car. We now have a Carbon Fibre Tubbed Force PT, we've fitted a standard GSXR K2 1000cc Suzuki engine and after a lot of false starts with the electrics, we're up and running, this runs a 6 speed box so that’s one more than the WP 1100cc engine we had in the last Force HC (Carbon/Aluminium Honeycomb) car, which incidentally is about to be re-sprayed and then will be up for sale at a very modest amount. Enquires welcome to above email. Also this new engine means with its complicated electrical system our rev counter, Speedo clocks don’t work, so we're running without any dials until ebay can provide at a very modest price!

This Force, Chassis Number 8 from the Bridgewater Works was fitted with Avon Radials, so that's a first for us, completely different set up to get right. All in all a lot of firsts, the time's been ticking away and we missed our first few events, but at Colerne, ill prepared we arrived at The Wessex Sprint, we were still trying to get the car ready at 3.30am, we said to hell with it, lets go and treat it as a practice, I'd not even managed to work out a way to fit into the coffin like tub, the last owner, being considerable smaller than I, had put the pedals far nearer the seat than I would have liked and my knees rammed into the bulkhead, in a Force there's nowhere to go!

We arrived at Wessex Sprint near bath, held by the “Bristol 3 Clubs” of Bristol Motor Club, Pegasus Motor Club & the MG Car Club.

At about 7.30 am, unloaded the car, changed to slicks, checked tyre pressures, belts, mixed petrol, signed on, got srutinered, cut race seat in half and covered with duck tape to stop it falling to bits, It’s one of those mould your own in a bin bag, isn't that a fun game! jumped in car, started up, throttle jams open! That made my heart go, seems we have a wee problem, we're pretty sure it's the management system, out of the car I get, John takes out the remnants of my "Handmade seat!"

It could just be the cable catching, maybe a heavier spring, well that's how the convoy run was done, but the throttle was still sticking and the first corner was taken a wee bit fast for a convoy run, no brakes, they haven't bedded in, hope the car in front gets his skates on!

Well both John & I raced, with all sorts of little glitches, like the brakes taking quite while to bed in, more seat adjustments till I can pull my foot back enough to stop them riding the peddles, several heavier springs later I would almost say we had throttle control, so all left to the last run and an incredibly competitive class, Ross Browne Won in his Force HC 2/10ths second ahead of myself, followed by a Very Lively Trevor Hartland in his snazzy new red OMS 2000M, hotly followed in 4th Chris Perry driving the Ex-Trevor Hartland OMS SF1B, then Max Liverton really getting to grips with his Force HC this will be his second season venturing into single seaters, he’s well known for his past speed and success in his black Westfield. 6th Dean Robertson in his self-made Dick Terrapin my better half John in 7th, 8th John Bunting in a Jedi 1V and David Garnett sharing the Jedi.

So we drove home in a happy state, pleased with the way the car handles and its stability around corners, despite the tyres being 2 years old and nigh on dead, Good old Avon's, but then I never had any complaints with the Hoosiers, it's just that the set up is totally different, you can't run radials the same way you run cross-plies.

Second Sprint (My 14th) the meeting was at Llandow, near Cardiff, held by the Welsh Counties Car Club, I always love the Welsh events, not a lot beats the enthusiasm of this lot, take Henryk Kozlowski, he's in the same class as me in a mean Jedi Mk1/6, man is he quick, Faster than senoket! In a meeting 2 season's ago, he helped John and I when our car developed an oil pressure fault, solved the problem and I went on to win, Henryk's smile never faltered, he's a Gent.

Anyway now he has a better faster engine (Yamaha R1), and I’m only just in the car, with loads of issues still to resolve, but jeez it's so good to be back racing again, I feel more alive when I race if that's possible!

Llandow went well, with steady progress all day, we’re getting the hang of the tyres and their pressures, the 6 speed box takes some getting used to, and with nothing to tell me what gear I’m in at any time, I have to count and just try and remember, I have no idea of revs as we haven't a rev counter, but the engine tell it's own story, the day ended with Henryk 1st by 1.18, I don't know the course well enough to be a threat to Henryk yet and ultimately I don't know if a standard engine is fast enough, and me I’m rusty I need practice!

Driving your father's old Fiat Panda 998cc Sisley 4x4 best suited to our way of life on Exmoor, just doesn't prepare one for 0-60 in 2.2 seconds, jeez I’m so unlucky!

Next Event Llandow, Bank Holiday Monday

Where sadly we had a loose wheel bearing and had to pack up after the first timed run, Well Done to Trevor Hartland for re-claiming his title and winning the class, Henryk in 2nd and myself in 3rd, Chris Perry 4th 5th Dean Robertson. Fyrth Cross in his lovely Mallock 6th

Next Event Dunkerswell 12 June.

Dunkerswell Sprint run very smoothly by Devon 4 Motorsport on the 12th June We only managed to get to this event with the incredible kindness of our fellow Team members Jay & Yve Rivers-Fletcher after our Tow Car's engine blew up and left us stranded, they drove all the way down to Exmoor from Warwick, and towed the car and trailer to the event, at the end of the event they towed it back home and then made their way all the way back to Warwick, I can't thank them enough.

Dunkerswell is a Kart Circuit, tight twisty with one very fast straight, the first practice run I came bombing down the straight, pressed the brakes for the semi-circle and nothing happened! we'd changed the pads and obviously made a mistake, luckily no damage done, we returned to the old knackered pads as the better option and the second practise left me second as the racing car classes had been amalgamated.

The Force coped well with the tight corners and I came in second FTD and first in class 0.46 behind an ever Swift Stuart Browne in his 1127cc Jedi,

When we both got out of the cars after our last runs, we where grinning from ear to ear, both scoring personal bests.

What a Great Day.

Llandow 18th June

For Llandow Annie and Nigel Webber of Lynton Laundrette lent us their Discovery and we set off at 4.15 am on what turned out to be a swelteringly hot day, Jay and Yve had camped the night at the circuit and so where just waking when we arrived.

My Brother Harry also came with us and great friends we first met through the BWRDC, Helen & Brian Allen came to help us run the two cars. (They themselves successfully circuit race a Ford Fiesta XR2i)

This event was hosted by M.A.C. and is a round of the Hillclimb & Sprint Association Championship it was decided that Jay would run second, he'd never sat in this car before! we're about the same height and build so we don't even have to change the seat belt positions but the heat of the day might be a problem to the car double driving over a lap and a half course, we'll see.

Now we'd got new brake pads again, only this time they seem to work from the word go, thank god, in fact everything worked bar the shift light, I saw it twice! the sun is making it impossible to see but I'm unused to it anyway, so the problems not great. the first run went well and left me fastest, I didn't know because it ruins my concentration and everyone felt it best not to say!

Jay went out on his first run, I take my hat of to him, he drove it well from the start, a bike engine takes a while to adjust to, the gear-stick is sequential, a change from his H-Pattern, and the acceleration after his Classic Royale F/F is a mind-blow.

On each run he took great chunks off his time, got smoother and learnt the course, also a first for him, we all walked it together in the morning and Jay showed me a better line through the bottom corner into the finish, on the second practice, I braked to late into the chicane and unable to shed enough speed span and got a fail.

This sharpened me up no end for the timed runs, that coupled with Jay's advice on race line gave me nothing short of a Miracle result, FTD by a 0.53 margin, which as you all know, means Fastest Time of the Day, Jay finished 6th in a very strong class, Yve drove the Formula Ford beautifully but was totally out-powered by the cars in her class, including Tony Marsh's beautiful Gould.

This may well be my day for Victory but without the help of every person I've just mentioned and a huge lot I haven't, it would have been a very different story, my thanks to Roger Thomas, all the officials and helpers from M.A.C. and the ever wonderful Orange Clad Marshals for the best day of my life so far.

Friends, Location, result, it doesn't get any better.

After that huge up, we didn't get a tow vehicle for Prescott Hillclimb run by The Bugatti Owner's Club and so went to as spectators and to support Jay & Yve in their Royale.

Virtue was rewarded and Jay drove a faultless last run to take the class win, Yve drove fantastically all day and gained a triumphant 2nd.

Next Event Castle Combe 2nd July.

Electrical glitches plagued us all day ending in a 4th place, went home despondent, took the car to bits and hopefully things will improve at Merrifield Sprint jointly being held by the Royal Navel Automobile Club & The Burnham on Sea Motor Club, a new 3 mile course, it will be lovely to start on a totally level playing field, new courses come up rarely.

23rd July Merrifield.

What a day, I led from the first practice to the last timed run, since its a new course for everyone this meant I got a Course and class record, what a hoot and what a turn around from Castle Combe! Fastest Time of the Day trophy was a delectable ships decanter, since I don't drink this seemed quite ironic but I love it, Great course, Wonderful hosts, Great Day

29th august Colerne Sprint, everything went well again still playing around a lot with the car, finally cracked it on the last run, 1st in Class and a new class record.

18th September Dunkerswell Sprint, Max Liverton piped me this time into second but I won the 1/2 mile drag race class, it was a cold day and I just couldn't go fast enough around the bends, another great day and Max had a well deserved win.

We finished with jolly at Prescott on 24/25th September, so nice to spend time with all our Hillclimbing friends and thank-you to Mike Moulder for all his help with the car and Bert Dyde for his action packed photos.

Any funny stories? My Parents where driving past Dunster Castle on the A39, when my father spotted an odd shaped vehicle approaching in the distance, “What on earth is that?” he questioned, Mother peered ahead “I Think it’s your daughter in the Fiat Panda with what looks like a wardrobe on the roof” The said wardrobe had been an unexpected buy in Taunton and absolutely dwarfed the little Fiat Panda onto whose roof it had been strapped with ropes passing right around the car.
