NHRA - IHRA Racer
Lima, OH
*Kathy Fisher, of Lima Ohio, driver of the
Boulton 482 c.i. Alcohol Injected Dragster, is a
part of drag racing's ever growing female driver
population. Her short term goals for 2007 is to
acquire that first IHRA Iron Man in Quick Rod, win
the 2007 IHRA Division 3 Pro-Am Championship all
while finishing in the top 10 IHRA National
points.
*Drag Racing is nothing new to Kathy. She has
been a part of the drag racing world from a very
young age, with her father heavily involved in IHRA
class racing in the early 70's, setting numerous
IHRA speed & E.T. records, along with winning
IHRA National Events. When it was finally her turn
to take the wheel in 1986, Kathy began her racing
her Dad's 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS. As part of the
Hague Racing team, Kathy competed in the Street ET
Class at various tracks throughout Indiana &
Ohio, earning her first win at the age of 15.
*While building her career in broadcasting,
Kathy's pursuit of racing had to take a
backseat.
*In 1999, Kathy came out swinging with her 1999
Camaro Z28 and began racing again, and this time
there was no taking a break. With countless round
wins under her belt in not only Super Sport, but
also in Modified No Box Class, she knew she was
ready to take the next step.....acquire a
Competition License.
*In February 2003, Kathy completed the Super
Comp Dragster course at Frank Hawley's NHRA Drag
Racing School in Gainesville, Florida. She now
joins the ranks of many graduates who have moved on
to the professional ranks of NHRA & IHRA.

PR for various IHRA Drag Racing teams. All of this
in addition to her duties at Performance by Fisher
Inc and Performance by Fisher Racing.

Tech In for
Motor City Nationals
With only one race in the books for Kevin and Kathy
Fisher of Performance by Fisher Racing, they are
more than ready to get their season into high gear.
That one race was the all important Summit
All-Stars shootout for Kathy and IHRA Knoll-Gas
Spring Nationals event held at Rockingham Dragway
last month.
While Kevin waits for delivery on his new
Cannister Motorsports Top Dragster, Kathy looks
forward to the Milan National event and finally
getting to compete with her new 548 BBC in her
Quick Rod entry.
We were all ready to start the year with
my new combination at the Rockingham event, but
that wasnt to be, Kathy said. We
didnt get to do much testing at all prior to
that event. Luckily, because of my participation in
the Chamber Day that was held on Thursday at
Rockingham, we found a problem with the new
motor.
Because Kevins new car is not complete
yet, meaning there was some extra room in the
trailer, the team decided to bring Kathys old
motor along for sale. Since it seemed that there
was no quick fix for the new engine,
that move proved to be a smart one as the team
spent the next twelve hours swapping power plants.
This feat would not have been possible without the
help of the entire Kalbones Grilln Sauce AFC
crew including the Cannisters.
That was a first, said Kevin.
We have been lucky all these years to have
never changed a motor at the track. What made it so
tough is that many parts had to be changed over as
well. It wasnt a matter of pulling one out
and just sliding the other in. We couldnt
have done it without a few more hands.
The team encountered a few problems trying to
get the Quick Rod dragster dialed in during
qualifying since the transmission and converter
were meant for a larger engine combination.
All-in-all it could have been a much worse
weekend, Kathy explained. I
couldnt get the car out of the nines
during qualifying but come race day I was able to
manage a couple of round wins. Plus I was able to
learn a little of what this new tranny and
converter want. The information will help a little
going to the next event.
The next event, at least for Kathy, is the
upcoming IHRA Motor City Nationals at what
Performance by Fisher Racing consider their home
track, Milan Dragway.
We usually make it up there at least four
times a year. We use the track for testing and
always compete in the national and divisional
events, said Kathy. Every time we go
there we are always treated very well by the entire
track staff. They call us by name and work with us
to make sure we get the track time we need. You
just cant beat that. You would think we raced
there every weekend.
Although its been a month since the last
event, the team has been anything but idle. Kathy
and Kevin made a trip to Gainesville, Florida last
week along with Dale and Laurie Cannister to Frank
Hawleys Drag Racing School. During their
stop, both Kevin and the Cannisters sat in on
the classroom portion of the two day Super
Class.
While they were brushing up on their skills,
Kathy began to coordinate a new promotion that is
soon to kick-off with the school and IHRA.
Im very excited to get this (promotion)
underway. We have some great things in store for
the IHRA racers and fans and we will be releasing
the details very soon, she exclaimed.
High Hopes Set in for
Performance by Fisher Racing
Before competition has even started in 2008 for the
husband and wife duo, Kevin and Kathy Fisher of
Performance by Fisher Racing, IHRA Quick Rod
competitor Kathy Fisher has already been quite the
traveler. Since leaving her radio career in late
2006, many things have changed for the Western Ohio
Pro-Am racer, including what she does off the
track. She has added a few more lines to her
business card, so to speak, all having to do with
drag racing. These include race team PR for Laurie
Cannister and Kalbones Grilln Sauce,
additional TV shows as on-camera talent for Ted
Jones and Masters Entertainment and more recently
being added to Frank Hawleys staff.
It was just last month that Kathy began working
for the legendary Hawley and his Drag Racing School
in Gainesville. She spent ten days working at the
Florida facility in conjunction with the
Gatornationals. This time also allowed her to
attend the classroom portion of one of the Super
Classes that was held while she was there.
I attended Franks school in early
2003 for my SC/QR license and have used many of the
fantastic techniques that he teaches during the
classroom portion since. It was a pleasure to sit
in again and get a refresher course of sorts,
especially when I need all the help I can get
heading into this first race of the year,
Kathy said.
The first race is none other than the IHRA
Spring Nationals in Rockingham, NC this upcoming
weekend. (April 18-20) While Kathy has competed in
many IHRA National events, its the
prestigious Summit All-Stars shootout that has been
on her mind.
There is not one other driver in the top 8
that didnt work their tails off in 2007 to
get in the position that they are in. Its
really like a whos-who in the
IHRA Sportsman ranks. To be a part of the Summit
All-Stars is just amazing and its another
great program that IHRA has put together for us to
aim for and I know were all aiming
high, Kathy explained.
While Kathy will compete in the same
Boulton/Cannister dragster that got her to the
All-Stars last season, what is behind her is a
different combination. Kevin Fisher, who builds the
engines for the teams Quick Rod entries,
worked with Stan and Ohio Crankshaft and
Kathys dragster will now have a 548ci
BBC.
Im pretty darn excited about what I
have to work with this year. Kevin has always built
all my power plants, as he did this year, but being
able to team up with Ohio Crankshaft is
fantastic, said Kathy.
When the team arrives in Rockingham later this
week, Kathy will have many other hats to wear other
than that of driver. She will continue her work
with the Kalbones Racing AFC team along with
working the Performance by Fisher Inc vendor
display and just maybe a few interviews for
1320tv.com.
For those that know me, Im not much
for being an idle person. Keeping busy is also very
good for me because it doesnt allow me time
to dwell on things too much and I feel that will be
extra important this weekend, she said.
Round one for Kathy in the Summit All-Stars will
find her racing number four qualifier, Tony Helms.
To date, Kathy doesnt remember meeting up
with him in a round of competition, but she does
remember her husband Kevin and Tony squaring off
last fall in Budds Creek. I know Tony will be
tough. Ive watched him and he can really dial
a car to run dead-on. There will be no
gimmes and just being on your game may
not be enough.
Thanks to Kevin, I will have a great horse
under me and I feel really good about my driving
skills thanks to a little classroom update from
Frank Hawley. I have all the tools anyone could
ever need to do well not only this weekend but the
entire season, including all the help from our new
and returning sponsors. I have never had quite this
kind of arsenal heading into a new year. Its
just amazing, she added.
