Carly started racing in 2003 at Llandow Circuit

Shortly after competing in club meetings for a few
months, her parents entered her into the Super 2
National Championship. After a year of intense
learning chasing more experienced drivers she
finished 17th in the Championship. In 2004 she
competed in the Honda Cadet class at various
meetings all around the country. Finishing 7th in
the Super 2 National Championship, runner up in the
British Women Drivers Club Kartsport Trophy,
winning the Celtic Championship and she won the
NKRA Southern championship.
2005 was Carlys first year competing at
Junior level in the TKM 4 stroke class. Finishing
6th in the Super 1 National Championship, winning
the Celtic and Welsh championship. She was chosen
to race and represent Wales at the Internations
Challenge for three consecutive years. In 2007, 08
Carly concentrated on competing in the National
Championships and finished 7th and 4th. In 2007 she
won the ABkC National O Plate
Championship and the F6 O plate. 2009
she made the move up into seniors and in her first
race she won the round out write at Super 1.
Carly was selected to be part of the AASE course
at Loughborough collage. The course was in
connection with the Race Drivers Academy based at
Silverstone. The course develops elite sports
people in the main areas of technical development
and occupational competence to benefit them within
their sport.
In 2010 Carly started racing in the Ma5da Racing
championship in a Mazda Mx5 Mk 1. It was a steep
learning curve, having to learn all the circuits
and get used to racing something that was much
bigger than a Kart. Throughout the year the results
soon progressed having numerous top 15 finishes
within the full grids.
The 2011 season was a set of new challenges as
Carly and her family decided to build their own
race car rather than rent from a team. Her first
race out was a good sign of races to come with the
car as Carly came home with two top ten finishes at
Castle Combe. Latcham Motorsport up and running
once again.
Within Carlys first year at University she
competed in the British University Karting
Championship representing Swansea Metropolitan
University. She is now on the committee of the
British Women Racing Drivers Club as the Karting
secretary.
In years to come Carly aims to progress as far
as possible within her racing career with an
ultimate goal of competing in Touring Cars. Also
within her academic achievements getting a good
grade in her degree and having a successful career.

Progress with more Top
15 Finishes for Carly in Mazdas!
(8/19/11)
Carly Latcham has begun her
season in the Ma5da Racing Championship competing
in the MK1 car within full capacity grids at each
race. The Ma5da racing championship is the largest
one make championship in the UK with 120+ drivers
registered to take part in the
championship.
After a long winter and
preparing the car, Carly began her season at Castle
Combe in May. Completing a test day after finishing
exams, the car was running good and did not have
any teething problems. It was a washout on race
day, needing a boat more than a race
car.
Managing to stay on track
Carly qualified 12th and looking forward to her
first race since 2010, Carly had a good battle with
other cars and she finished in 10th. The team was
very happy with this result after a long wait over
the winter one test day and a top ten finish. Race
two was a very similar story with Carly finishing
in 9th.
The team spent time
working on the car before the next race at Oulton
Park getting the head skimmed. Due to work
commitments the team were unable to do any testing
for this meeting. This showed with a poor result in
qualifying: 30th. Race 1 Carly was on a mission
starting at the rear of the grid and working her
way up the field to finish 11th. Race 2 was a shame
with a DNF.
Carly became partners with
Websorceress.co.uk just before Snetterton. They are
specialists in web design and hosting. Carly is
very grateful for the help and would like to give
thanks to them for creating a brilliant website:

Snetterton was another
good weekends progress for Carly after
qualifying in 21st. After a poor start Carly had to
work her way back through the traffic a tricky
race with the tyres overheating to early on. The
team was pleased when she finished in 14th. Race 2
was going to be better as settings were changed on
the car. A tough battle with another group of cars
passing back and forth Carly finished a personal
best 8th We were very pleased with the result as we
know there are still alterations which need doing
to the car to get it on top form.
At Brands Hatch Carly was
racing in more huge grids, qualifying in 18th with
the top 18 split by 1.5 seconds in pace. Race 1 was
very good when Carly finished in 10th. Race 2 was a
battle from start to finish when Carly was in a
group of 5 cars looking for the top ten. It was a
close race with Carly finishing in 13th by 0.038 of
a second from 12th.
The team are pleased with
the results. 'I'm very happy with how the season
has gone so far, trying to find budget at the
beginning of the season was tough but now I'm back
out on circuit its been brilliant. The rest
of this season we are developing and understanding
the car, we will be working hard over the winter to
have a good challenge with the championship next
year'.
Carly on the Podium (4/2/05)
Carly Latcham took the second step on the podium at
Fulbeck on April 24th in the Junior 4 Stroke final.
In the opening heat she scored a win, followed by a
ninth in the second and 15th in the third. This
gave her an overall second place slot for the grid
in the final one point away from pole man. After
being dropped to fourth place on the opening lap
she fought her way back up to second place closing
in on the leader, when her enthusiasm created a
small error which dropped her back to third briefly
before taking the flag back in second place. Carly
reported that the racing was really
good, she is now lying third overall in the
championship and her next round will be at Lydd on
May 15th.
Carly Latcham - 2nd in the BWRDC Kart
Championship (with 9 individual wins, 7th overall
in the British Super 2 Championship, 2nd overall in
the Llandow Kart Club Championship and the winner
of the NKRA Southern Area Championship)
