First Female Pilot Joins Thunderbirds
The Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron announced
the selection of Capt. Nicole Malachowski as the
first female pilot in the 52 years of the
Thunderbirds flying team. Malachoski, a 1996 Air
Force Academy graduate from Las Vegas, is also the
first female demonstartion pilot on a military
high-performance jet team, Air Force spokesman Maj.
Vic Hines said. The F-15E pilot just returned from
deployment in Southwest Asia. The 2006
Thunderbirds, whose six pilots fly F-16s, will
begin training in the fall. Malachowski, 30, called
her selection "a great privilege."
