Alexah Pearson climbing up
the ranks
Alexah Pearson made quite a jump between the end of
her amateur motocross career and the professional
ranks. It was the equivalent of the 40-foot uphill
jump at Hangtown. Heck, throw in a large whoop
section, too.
The Rocklin resident finished second, first and
second in her three motos at the American
Motorcyclist Associations Nationals last week
in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., to claim first place
overall in the womens 14-and-older class.
Pearson, 18, is the best amateur female rider in
the country and will now battle the likes of Ashley
Foilek and Jessica Patterson full-time on the
womens professional circuit that runs
concurrently with the mens.
Im just super excited about
it, Pearson said of the amateur title.
Its cool to come out on top and make it
my last time racing there. The biggest difference
for me now in the pros will be that everyone is
faster and has more experience. Plus the tracks are
a lot gnarlier.
Pearson has been racing for more than half her
life. She was home schooled and graduated in June
from the Visions in Education program. Home
schooling allowed her to practice, travel and race
on her schedule. Her brother, Connor, 14, also is
home schooled and races motocross. He finished
second overall in 2009 in his age class but missed
the nationals this year because of an injured
wrist.
Their mother, Theresa Pearson, played
professional basketball overseas, and their father,
Brett Pearson, was a professional golfer who now
owns a construction business. The family lives next
to Sunset Whitney Country Club in Rocklin.
Alexah Pearson will spend the next two weeks in
Pittsburgh training for the Rockstar Energy
Southwick National on Aug. 28. After that, there
are just two more professional races this season
Sept. 4 in Delmont, Pa., and Sept. 11 in San
Diego.
Out here, we can ride every day, all day
at a bunch of tracks, where at Prairie City (in
Rancho Cordova) you can maybe ride four days out of
the week, Pearson said. But Prairie
City will always be my favorite track.
Pearson will be a free agent after the season,
able to sign with any factory team. She said
shes looking forward to the process and hopes
to get an offer soon.
Im a solid, consistent rider,
she said. I still need to work on my
cornering, get faster and get more
aggressive.
