Bio
Type of Racing: Sports Car
Race Series: Not yet applicable Jackie is
taking part in the UKs Formula Woman
programme, a search for female drivers to race in
an all-female racing championship in 2006.
Introduction: Formula Woman hit the headlines in
2003 with its UK wide search for female drivers
with the raw talent to be transformed in to racing
drivers. Of 10,000 hopefuls, Jackie Skelton was
ranked within the top 200, although she had never
even sat in a racing car before her assessment.
While she didnt win a race seat that year,
the determined photographer and keen motorsport
enthusiast vowed not to give up and, in 2005, she
has entered again with new passion.
To give herself the best opportunity, Jackie has
spent many hours and even more laps behind the
wheel of Club Formula Womans Honda Civic
TYPE-Rs and Caterham Academy cars with just one
goal in mind to make it on to the grid as a
fully fledged racing driver.
Current Season: Starting with a Club FW
novice training day at Dunsfold
home of the famous BBC Top Gear TV programme
Jackie has religiously practised her heel and
toeing, braking, cornering and car control
techniques in many subsequent days at circuits as
diverse as Goodwood, Oulton Park and Llandow. She
will shortly complete her advanced
course in preparation for her racing licence
and, come the FW assessment day in October, she
will be ready for one of the final 16 grid
positions.
Racing Goals: Thats simple to start
racing and, once there, to progress as far as she
possibly can whether in saloon, sports or
open-wheeled cars and, of course, to take the men
on, too.
Personal: As an athlete she is already a
champion in track and field and as a professional
photographer Jackies images have appeared on
motoring magazine covers, brochures and books. A
lifelong car enthusiast, she drives a classic
Lancia Fulvia and has enjoyed assignments as
diverse as photographing 1000bhp dragsters in the
studio and shooting 220mph endurance racers at the
Le Mans 24-Hour race. She is married to a respected
motoring journalist and fellow racing driver.
Special Thanks to: Jackie would like to thank
all at Formula Woman for training, advice
and for being given such an opportunity to be
involved in motorsport and her parents and
husband for their continued support in all she
undertakes.
