Anjanette Steer, 39, was born and raised near Big Lake, Alaska. She received her B.S. in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University and a master's degree in Environmental Science at Alaska Pacific University. She married Iditarod veteran Zack Steer and they moved to Sheep Mountain Lodge to follow Zack’s Iditarod dreams and live the rural lifestyle. Anjanette began mushing in 2001 and started planning for the Iditarod in 2006. She says, “now that the boys are in school and Zack is taking a year off, it’s my turn for a 16 dog check ride.” Zack and Anjanette are the parents of Glenn, 9, and Clayton, 6.
