After the 2009 session, this persistent young
woman finished a respectable 12th placed in SOS
points out of 29 in this male-dominated sport.
Later this fall, she is hoping to compete in a
410-sprint event, held at Rolling Wheels Raceway,
in conjunction with speed week held every fall in
Syracuse New York.

In the small farm town of
Joyceville, close to Kingston, Ontario, you will
find a young woman pursuing a passion that many
race fans dare to dream of. Her name is April
Wilson. She races sprint cars. Now 18 years of
age, she began racing at 15 and went directly into
the seat of a sprint car.
The desire for speed came
long ago from watching her idle her father,
Rick Wilson -- one of Canadas best sprint car
drivers. With the support from her father and
mother, Penny Wilson, April received her first race
car as a Christmas gift in 2006. With her
parents encouragement, April took on this
urge to race and she hasnt looked back
During the 2008 racing
season, April had a violent roll over at Brighton,
Ontario, where she was transported to the hospital.
Medical staff administered medication, not
realizing, April experienced an allergic to. This
became a life-threatening situation. Talking to her
mother, Penny, this was the only time she
questioned whether she had made the right decision
on supporting Aprils desirer to race. April
finished the year in 13th place out of
47.

Off the track, April has
just completed high school and has decided to take
one year off of her studies to decide on what
career path to follow. She has also considered
taking up kick boxing, which in itself, is a very
demanding sport. I am sure that whatever adventure
or career path April follows, racing her sprint car
will always be in the back of her mind.
